On Thursday in Rabat, Zambia reaffirmed its strong support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, while renewing its backing for the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom as the only credible and realistic solution to the dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

In a joint statement issued following talks between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and his Zambian counterpart Mulambo Haimbe, Lusaka also welcomed the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025.

According to Zambian diplomacy, the resolution recognizes the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco under its national sovereignty as the only serious, credible, and lasting basis for achieving a definitive political solution to this regional dispute.

The Zambian foreign minister also reiterated his country’s support for the efforts led by the United Nations to reach a lasting and mutually acceptable political settlement. He stressed that the Moroccan initiative represents a pragmatic and constructive approach capable of promoting regional stability.

For his part, Nasser Bourita welcomed the remarkable development of relations between Rabat and Lusaka in recent years, notably marked by the opening of the Zambian embassy in Rabat and Zambia’s consulate general in Laayoune in October 2020.
